Marie Lafontaine's colorful, almost painterly photographs focus on
the structures - grand and minute - of the urban landscape. From
buildings to barstools, from quiet alcoves to the city streets,
Marie Lafontaine creates images of "structural remnants of the past,"
within present-day settings - as artifacts, relics, or souvenirs of
everyday life. Through the camera, she explores the urban
anatomy - the abstract forms that make up the cityscapes, interior
views and still lifes that she photographs. Though void of human
figures, Marie Lafontaine's art does not lack human presence - her work
focuses on the places and spaces that people have built and in which
they live and work, creating a portrait of society through images of
the lasting objects and architecture its members have made. Marie Lafontaine has participated in several group and solo shows in
Canada, and is a founding member of Groupe des Cinq, which
regularly exhibits the work of its members. She works and lives in
Montreal, Canada. |
